Our tree work is led by an ISA Certified Arborist with Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) and 20 years of experience in horticulture and the landscape industry.

Tree pruning

Tree pruning should have a clear objective and be based on the species, structure, condition and location of the tree.

We use proper pruning practices to support tree health, structure and safety while maintaining the tree’s natural form. Depending on the tree and the objective, pruning may include dead, dying or broken branch removal, crown cleaning, structural pruning, crown raising, crown reduction and clearance pruning.

We consider branch attachment, defects, competing stems, included bark, clearance requirements and the tree’s response to pruning before determining what should be removed.

Proper pruning cuts are made with consideration for the branch collar and branch bark ridge, without unnecessary removal of live tissue. We avoid topping and excessive crown removal that can negatively affect tree structure and long-term health.

The goal is not simply to make a tree smaller or remove branches — it is to make appropriate pruning decisions that support the tree now and as it continues to grow.
